Peter Larsen Kaffe and Cirqle have joined forces to test the digital return system of the future together with reusable and washable coffee cups at NorthSide 2023.
The thousands of single-use-cups, which normally are used at NorthSide, will now not only be washed and reused but will also be digitally monitored so that environmental and CO2 benefits can be optimised and documented.
Peter Larsen Kaffe is responsible for the many coffee stalls on NorthSide, and this year the coffee is served in so-called Comeback cups, which are equipped with a QR code and an RFID chip. The company behind the digital solution, Cirqle, are experts in recycling systems for different packaging solutions.
The Comeback cup is specially designed to withstand being washed and reused many times. Together with the digital tracking system it is possible to document the environmental footprint of the life cycle of the cup and showcase the cups user journey for consumers.
The trial with the Comeback cup can also contribute to Aarhus Municipality's goal of eliminating single-use packaging.
Using the power of technology to enhance the transition to reusable packaging, while providing valuable insights on life cycle impact, efficiency and value adds. This aligns with CCC's objective to eliminate all waste from coffee production and consumption.
