A lot of the waste occurs at farm level, where wet fruit pulp and wastewater pollute soil and groundwater. Farmers struggle to make a living from coffee sales, yet they do not utilize the whole fruit, wasting 9 million tonnes of fruit pulp annually.

We only recently realized that cascara is a superfood. But if quantities are low, the transport costs are too high to make it worthwhile trading cascara. This is a huge barrier to developing it as a product.

We want to couple coffee and cascara shipments and build an infrastructure around it, to be able to trade cascara in Europe and increase volumes in the future.
